A NEW INTERFAITH DIALOGUE SERIES

Interfaith Dialogue on the Road is a popular IMS program that travels to congregations for a multi-week mini-course on world religions.

The Intention:
To engage in a spiritual quest for common ground in a pluralistically religious world.

The Objectives:

  • To explore the value, challenges, and opportunities for interfaith dialogue in a pluralistic land
  • To learn the core tenets, practices, and profiles of the major religious traditions of our time
  • To gain knowledge and insight into religious diversity in our world, nation and community
  • To experience and be in dialogue with area faith representatives.
The Topics:
  • The National Scene: Interfaith Understanding and Authentic Dialogue
  • The Christian Story: Unified Through Incarnation and Revelation
  • A Focus Upon Abrahamic Traditions: Myths and Realities
  • East meets West: The Emerging Global Village
  • An Interfaith Panel Looks at Local Diversity
Participants will have the opportunity to:
  • Learn the importance, challenges, and opportunities for interfaith dialogue and understanding in an increasingly pluralistic and diverse nation. This will entail gaining knowledge and insight into religious diversity in our world, nation and community.
  • Increase knowledge of the core tenets, practices,& profiles of the major religious traditions of our time.
  • Learn at least one teaching, principle or practice that all religions can embrace. At the same time they will see where there are fundamental distinctions/differences & see value in diversity in the family of religions.
  • Experience and see the value of being in dialogue with area faith representatives as well as the benefits of being open to ongoing developing relationships – actually spending more time - with people of different spiritual beliefs and practices.
  • Deepen their understanding and affection for their own spiritual family and beliefs, re-discovering what is most valuable and at the core of their own faith tradition. This will include the discovery of one or two contributions their tradition offer to the larger spiritual family.
