Food Assistance Ministry
Families and individuals experiencing a food emergency can call 211 and be referred to FoodLine, a volunteer-run call center that connects people in need to local church food pantries. FoodLine, the community service arm of Interfaith Mission Service (IMS), has been operating since 1994, serving tens of thousands of people in Huntsville and Madison County. The call center operates out of the United Way building and can be reached directly at 256-534-2424.

How FoodLine Works
Volunteers answer calls Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 11:30 am. They speak with callers to gather information about household size, approximate ages, and location. FoodLine acts as a clearinghouse, contacting the pantry that is the best fit based on location, day, and time, and arranging a pick-up schedule. This process provides straightforward, same-day assistance.

What’s in a FoodBox
Pantry boxes vary but typically include hot and cold cereals, bread, pasta, sauces, rice, canned meats, vegetables, fruits, soups, cheese, crackers, cookies, cooking oil, and diapers when available—enough for 2–3 days.

Pantries and Hours

  • Huntsville: St. Mark’s Lutheran, St. Paul’s UMC, Holmes Street UMC
  • Madison: Asbury UMC
  • Gurley: Gurley Presbyterian offers a $40 voucher

Each pantry sets its own hours and guidelines, which FoodLine respects. When needed, callers are redirected to Manna House, the Huntsville Assistance Program (HAP) pantry, the Salvation Army kitchen, or other local resources. FoodLine also provides referrals for utility, rent, or clothing assistance.

Community Support
FoodLine depends on congregations that host pantries and provide donations of food, funds, and volunteers. Without their support, the program could not operate. IMS is proud to serve the community through this vital ministry.
